A recent conversation made me reflect on something I hadn’t consciously articulated in quite some time: principles.
The ones that consistently influence how I coach, facilitate, decide, and build.
So I took a step back and asked myself: what are the principles behind how I work?
And I came up with this cheeky list (you know I like a good list if you’ve been with me for a while):
- As a coach, I believe the client has the ability to solve their challenges or obtain their goals. I believe they already have the intelligence, resourcefulness, and capacity to do so.
My role is to help them think better, see clearer, identify options and decide deliberately. - As a high achiever, I believe in high quality work and continuous learning. I believe in depth over breadth, which means I don’t learn for the sake of consuming information, I learn to apply.
- As a facilitator, I believe in creating experiences with and for participants. I ask questions that make them think and feel, I bring exercises that apply concepts and create a collaborative environment for participants to practice together.
- As a solopreneur, I believe in learning by doing, testing and iterating, learning from mentors, having flexibility and making well thought out decisions. I believe clarity comes from reflection and action.
These principles shape how I do what I do, and they also make me wonder about others.
I’m curious: What are the principles that guide your work most right now?
Let me know in the comments.
