If you’re a high achiever working in Tech, let’s talk about some things you need to let go of this year/in 2026, in order to stay professionally relevant and career focused.
2025 has been a rollercoaster of a year for most of us. From layoffs announced with little warning, to teams restructured overnight, to goals changing fast, to a constant pressure to “do more with less”.
But it’s over and done.
You have the ability (and option) to regroup and start the year with ownership, in a deliberate way.
So, in 2026 these things need to go:
1️. Beliefs that no longer protect you:
- “If I just work harder, I’ll be safe.”
- “Being indispensable means saying yes to everything.”
- “Stability comes from loyalty to one company.”
- “I can’t invest now, the market is too risky.”
These beliefs can give you the impression that you’re acting responsibly, however they increase burnout and feed your blind spots.
2. Emotional patterns that tire you:
- Living in low-grade fear of layoffs,
- Constant vigilance,
- Guilt when you rest,
- Worrying about things you can’t control.
3. Behaviours that keep you stuck:
- Perfectionism that delays visibility,
- People pleasing that dilutes your impact,
- Overthinking instead of deciding,
- Staying silent to avoid friction,
4. The idea that career growth is linear. The job market has changed:
- Longer hiring processes, more scrutiny,
- Flatter structures, higher expectations
- Skills and adaptability over strict titles.
Clinging to a linear career story creates frustration and fear. Discovering and having options fuels confidence.
In my view, the high achievers who will do well in 2026 are the ones who think clearer, decide smartly, and protect their energy on purpose.
